Maccabi Tel Aviv fans engaged in violent, racist behavior from the moment they arrived in Amsterdam.They initiated clashes with Dutch youth, intimidated passersby, beat a taxi driver, ripped down and burned a Palestinian flag in a public square, chanted anti-Arab, pro-genocide slogans, and ignited fireworks during a moment of silence for the victims of the floods in Valencia. Video after video shows dozens of Maccabi fans shouting, “death to Arabs” and “let the IDF win to f*** the Arabs” in public spaces. Throughout those provocations, the Dutch police stood by. They ignored the Maccabi fans’ violence, yet later targeted those who confronted them.
What happened was unequivocally anti-Arab, anti-Palestinian racism in living color, and Global Jews for Palestine—consisting of Jewish groups in 18 countries and on 6 continents—condemns it in the strongest possible terms.
Global Jews for Palestine also condemns the manipulation of the facts, including the disingenuous accusation of antisemitism as the cause of the violence that unfolded. That supporters of Israel and much of the media turned the narrative into one of pure antisemitism, calling it a pogrom, makes a mockery of those terms.
